Voorzitter Sipke Saakstra legde met betrekking tot het olympisch perspectief uit dat de drie internationale bonden het in februari van dit jaar eens geworden zijn over een samenwerking, waarbij gekozen is voor een internationale vorm van kaatsen: het zogenaamde muurkaatsen.
,,De volgende stap is het verkrijgen van internationale erkenning en het hoofdbestuur van de KNKB steunt dat initiatief van harte. Het zou mooi zijn dat in 2016 de eerste Friese kaatsers actief zouden zijn op de Olympische Spelen", zei Saakstra, die daaraan toevoegde: ,,Maar het mag nooit ten koste gaan van het Friese kaatsen. Het WK kaatsen zal in 2012 in Franeker en omstreken worden gehouden. ,,Een mooie kans, die eens in de 36 jaar voorkomt, om in de picture te komen, vond Saakstra.

Historic Move in Olympic Handball Bid

Monday, 28 February 2011 12:35 Following a remarkable breakthrough in the development of the sport of handball internationally in Valencia over the weekend 26th-28th February 2011, the next step will see an historic moment for the sport take place in Ireland in June 2011. The 2011 GAA Handball One Wall Nationals will have an incredible international flavour this time around as a new International One Wall Federation is launched with a place secured in the 2013 World Games in Cali, Columbia, and plans to see the game introduced to the Olympic Arena in 2016. As well as this historic event there will also now be an International Team showdown at this year's One Wall Nationals event to add to what now promises to be a truly remarkable occasion.

GAA Handball attended and played an integral part in what could prove to be one of the most historic International Conferences for the sport of handball worldwide. Valencia played host to the various International bodies as well as some of the National Federations around the World to look at a new International structure which would work towards bringing Handball to the Olympic Stage. The exciting news is that there was unanimous agreement following 2 days of negotiations that a new International Federation, encompassing in excess of 33 National Federations from around the world will be set up and put forward a professional bid for Olympic Status in the near future. Part of this included discussion on handball being an exhibition sport at the World Games in Cali, Columbia, in 2013 which is a pre-requisite to getting a foot into the Olympic Games itself. Following overall discussion, it was agreed that Handball would be part of the World Games in Cali, Columbia, which is indeed very exciting for the sport. In the interim period a Work-Group Committee of 9 individuals has been formed which will finalise all arrangements and put in place a new constitution for the International Federation which will take in all handballing countries around the World - which at present is 33 affiliated countries and by 2012 could be in the region of 50 possible countries! This Work Group will finalise this document and this will be presented at a final International Conference which has been agreed to take place in Ireland in June 2011 - prior to the One Wall Nationals. This ever growing prestigious event will also now see 8-12 International country teams - including USA, Columbia, Spain, The Basque County, England, Italy and France with others to be advised. With Olympic representation at this year's event to view the sport and also be part of the Final Launch of the new International Handball Federation - Ireland will indeed have a very significant role to play in what promises to be a momentous era for the Sport! Further details will follow on this and the hugely exciting week that will now form the Irish One Wall Nationals in June 2011.

Een van de populairste volkssporten in de Dender en Schelderegio is het kaatsen. In de vorige eeuw telde bijna iedere stad of gemeente langs beide waterwegen een kaatsclub. Dat is anno 2008 niet meer het geval. Maar toch is de sport nog altijd springlevend. Wij volgden een wedstrijddag bij de allerkleinsten van Kaatsclub Wieze Sportief.

Leeuwarden - Het Nederlands kaatsteam dat de komende dagen zal meedoen aan Europilota 2010 is in de vanochtend vroeg ‘lang om let’ neergestreken in Valencia. Op dat EK zal de ploeg van bondscoach Pieter Tienstra de komende vijf dagen proberen op een van de vier onderdelen, die annex zijn met de kaatssport, een gooi te doen naar de titel.

De reis naar Valencia had heel wat voeten in de aarde. Toen maandag de geplande vliegreis werd gecanceld vanwege een staking van de Franse luchtverkeerleiding waardoor het luchtruim boven Frankrijk verboden gebied was, moesten Tienstra en zijn begeleidingsstaf maandag in allerijl nog op zoek naar alternatieven. ,,Dat gaf allemaal extra drukte. Het is niet gemakkelijk om een gezelschap van twintig personen onder te brengen, maar het is uiteindelijk toch geslaagd”, vertelt een opgeluchte Tienstra.

Volgens de bondscoach, die sinds 2007 in dienst is van de KNKB, is de ploeg klaar voor het EK. ,,We hebben van mei tot juli getraind en zijn na de PC weer begonnen.” De Nederlandse - lees: Friese - delegatie doet aan alle vier onderdelen mee en kan de eerste twee dagen, als het Internationaal spel en Galotxa op het programma staat, wat acclimatiseren. Op die eerste spelsoort behaalde het team drie jaar geleden bij het EK in Italië zilver.

Wat is muurkaatsen? Muurkaatsen of "one-wall handball" is op zijn simpelst gezegd squash op een baan met alleen een frontmuur, waarbij de bal in plaats van met een racket met de hand of vuist wordt geslagen. Het kan één-tegen-één of twee-tegen-twee worden gespeeld. Het is de bedoeling de bal met de hand of vuist vanuit de opslagzone via de muur in ontvangstzone te brengen. De tegenpartij moet dan proberen de bal voor de tweede stuit opnieuw via de muur in het speelveld te slaan. Als één van de beide partijen er niet in slaagt de bal geldig te retourneren, dan heeft de andere partij de rally gewonnen.

Muurkaatsen wordt rondom op de wereld gespeeld. Dat is niet zo vreemd. Het enige wat je nodig hebt om dit flitsende spelletje te spelen is een muur en een bal. Lees verder

Uitstekende work-out!

Muurkaatsen is super geschikt als fitnesstraining. Het is een erg intensieve sport waarbij je vrijwel al je spieren gebruikt (en dat zul je de eerste keren merken ook!) Dus behalve een flitsend, competitief spel, ook nog een prima work-out!

One-wall

A one-wall handball court has a wall 20 feet (6.1 m) wide and 16 feet (4.9 m) high. The court floor is 20 feet (6.1 m) wide and 34 feet (10.4 m) long. When not played as part of tournament or league play, the one-wall game typically uses the bigger ball called "the Big Blue" (described in the next section "Equipment"). The main difference between one-wall handball and other versions is that the ball must always be played off the front wall. One-wall handball can be watched by more people than a four-wall game. The court is also cheaper to build, making this version of handball popular at gymnasiums and playgrounds. In New York City alone, it is estimated that there are 2052 public handball courts in the five boroughs.
